Ashfield Creates Local Engagement Producer

2025

Liam Skillen is the Local Engagement Producer for the Ashfield Creates programme, where he works to empower local people to take part in and shape exciting new cultural activities in Ashfield. Liam’s role focuses on building community ownership and making the area a more vibrant and creative place to live.

Liam began his journey in the arts with First Art in Mansfield and Ashfield, where he worked closely with residents to deliver a range of creative events - most notably the first Ashfield Light Night. More recently, Liam has been involved in the heritage sector, taking a leap back in time to medieval Nottinghamshire and helping get people involved with the development of Newark Castle. Liam’s passion for social and living history also led to the creation of a new online archive in collaboration with Central and Eastern European communities in Mansfield.

A recent career highlight was creating a multi-generational exhibition with Newark’s Polish community in 2024 - an inspiring, pride-filled project that drew national attention where the Polish consulate even made an appearance!
